KEEPING UP WITH JONES
Perhaps no Seminole was more supreme in the 1992 season than LB Marvin Jones Sr. The junior from Miami finished with a team-high 111 tackles, three sacks, three pass breakups and a forced fumble. Jones Sr. was also a unanimous All-American, winning both the Butkus Award and Lombardi Award and finishing fourth in Heisman Trophy voting. The quick-footed, hard-hitting linebacker helped the Noles go 8-0 in ACC play and claim the 1992 ACC Championship in the program’s first season in the conference. “There is no question, Marvin is unique,” said assistant coach Wally Burnham. “In my honest, humble opinion, he is the best linebacker in college football in all of America.” FSU retired Jones Sr.’s No. 55 jersey on October 10, 2015, a fitting tribute to one of the best defenders to wear Garnet and Gold.
